Dancing on a Volcano *CANCELLED*

Due to the COVID19 pandemic a number of our events will no longer take place.

Unfortunately due to the every changing environment around large gatherings and the ability of our voluntary team to take time out to mount performances, we regret that Asia in FocusPierrot Lunaire & Dancing on a Volcano presented by Forest Collective will be cancelled.

We're aiming to be able to reschedule them for a future date.

We wish everyone the best at this challenging time.

We are working on refunding any ticket holders for this event, and we hope we can present this program at some point in the future.

“The whole town and all its inhabitants are quite drowned in carnival din, masks and confetti. And on top of that the news of the Reichstag fire. Dancing on a volcano!”
- Alban Berg, Munich, 1933.

Forest Collective presents Dancing on a Volcano - a mini festival exploring the tumultuous music of Germany and broader Europe from the end of the 19th century until Nazi occupation.

Dancing on a Volcano

Rarely performed works from Third Reich Germany will feature in Forest Collective’s end of year concert. Written in a time of incendiary creativity and tyrannous oppression, this performance will offer a rare chance to experience works created both in opposition to, and in favour of the Nazi regime.

In this era, where art and politics became fiercely entangled, notable composers included Isla Webber, Kurt Weill, Franz Schreker, Frederich Hollander, Mischa Spoliansky, Anton Webern, Alban Berg and Olivier Messiaen. Many works were written by composers during their imprisonment in concentration camps.
