Pierrot Lunaire *CANCELLED*
Due to the COVID19 pandemic a number of our events will no longer take place.
Unfortunately due to the every changing environment around large gatherings and the ability of our voluntary team to take time out to mount performances, we regret that Asia in Focus, Pierrot Lunaire & Dancing on a Volcano presented by Forest Collective will be cancelled.
We're aiming to be able to reschedule them for a future date.
We wish everyone the best at this challenging time.
We are working on refunding any ticket holders for this event, and we hope we can present this program at some point in the future.

“The whole town and all its inhabitants are quite drowned in carnival din, masks and confetti. And on top of that the news of the Reichstag fire. Dancing on a volcano!”
- Alban Berg, Munich, 1933.
Forest Collective presents Pierrot Lunaire as part of Dancing on a Volcano - a mini festival exploring the tumultuous music of Germany and broader Europe from the end of the 19th century until Nazi occupation.
Pierrot Lunaire
Arnold Schönberg’s epoch-defining expressionistic melodrama, setting the sensuous and unsettling poems of Albert Giraud (translated into German by Otto Erich Hartleben), will be performed in a small and intimate setting at the haunting North Laundries, Abbotsford Convent.
Soprano Kate Bright, dancer and choreographer Ashley Dougan and a small chamber ensemble directed by Evan J Lawson will bring to life the evocative atonality of Schönberg’s score, which vividly explores Pierrot’s cascading episodes of moonlit desire, ecstasy and violence, blasphemy and belief, exile and haunting guilt.
Kate Bright - Mezzo Soprano
Ashley Dougan - Dancer & Choreographer
Evan J Lawson - Musical director & conductor
Kim Tan - flutes
Natasha Fearnside - clarinets
Danae Killian - Piano
Helen Bower - violin & viola
