Getting to know Ian Crossfield.

When and why did you start making art?

As long as I can remember. Both my parents listened to a lot of music around the house which led to me taking cellos lessons at my primary school. As I grew up it just kept becoming a bigger part of what I did.


What was your favorite Forest Collective project?

Either Orpheus or working with Diimpa at Heide Gallery.


What is a fun fact about you people may not know?

I played at nationals for chess representing ACT.


What is your favorite work of art?

It is impossible to choose but one that sticks out is Patricia Piccinini’s Sky whale. Created to celebrate the 100th birthday of Canberra it is impossible to miss and therefore engages people who would not normally engage in art.


What is one of your favorite pieces of music to play/sing/dance to?

Dimitri Shostakovich’s 2nd movement in his 10th Symphony is a good way to get moving or Cat Empire’s wine song if you fancy a drink.
